Thanks for the Weblogic support Oracle!

I know that it’s a tough thing to move forum contents from one system to another and I know that Oracle and BEA, prior to their buyout by Oracle, had a different forum system than Oracle.   I also understand that Oracle would want to move the Weblogic forum traffic to their own forums once the buyout was complete.   However why didn’t Oracle keep the BEA forums in place in a read-only format?

Seriously.  I’ve been trying to research some Weblogic 9.2 issues I’ve been dealing with and Google results return a lot of hits to the BEA forums.  Clicking on one of those links brings you to the Oracle forums….at the top level of the forums.   It would appear that those postings were never moved.  Again I understand this given the difficulty of moving from one system to another but they should have kept the old system in place for those of us who need to get answers for our Weblogic problems.

The odd thing is that Oracle kept the BEA edocs site in place with the same URL.  Why didn’t they do the same thing with the forums?

Update:

Thanks to Justin for pointing me to the read-only forums.  They are located at the following url:  http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=202

They still don’t have them at the original URL so that a Google search will bring up the posts but at least they have the data available.

  1. I worked with BEA before and also after Oracle acquisition, as weblogic consultant.
They have just linked the BEA edocs to Oracle site as the content gonna be static
The reason they chose to move the forum was due to login/technical issues. Continues updates keep happening and sooner the weblogic eng will be participating in the forum with their credentials.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I guess my frustration with the forums is that there is a body of work out there already linked in Google from years of forum posts for Weblogic. That stuff isn’t available anymoe which frankly is ridiculous. They should have put them in a read-only state but left them alone.

    1. Thanks for the pointer Justin. I did not see this from the Oracle forums page since not only was it at the bottom but you had to click on the Archived Forums link to see it. I’m glad that I was wrong and that Oracle did provide a read-only copy. What would have been ideal in my mind would have been to keep the URLs the same so that Google searches would work as they used to. At least the information is out there so I stand corrected. Thanks again for the pointer!

  6. NP – admittedly, it’s not easy to find due to some system limitations. URL migration was not possible because BEA forums lived on an outsourced platform and were moved to an internal one.

Not ideal, but we’ll take what we can get. Cheers.
