Microsoft unveils new Bing Maps beta

Microsoft is really pushing Bing hard, and pushing out enhancements by the boatload.  And they’re gaining marketshare as a result.   According to Macworld they’re up to almost 10 percent of the search market.   That’s not a bad number given the short time the service has really been available.  It’s not Google’s share but they’re working hard and it’s showing.  Its a fantastic service and I’m pretty much using it as my default search now.

The only problem I have with it is their requirement of Silverlight being installed.   No offense to Microsoft but Flash would have been a better option.  It’s just a lot more likely to be installed on a user’s machine.  I won’t install Silverlight on my Mac just to use Bing Maps.
