Favorite Bands from the 1980s: OMD

In 1985 I went to see Power Station at Poplar Creek Music Theater in the Chicago burbs. Unfortunately Robert Palmer had left the band just previous to this concert and Michael Des Barres took over lead vocals. But I digress…

OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) was the opening act. I didn’t know a thing about this band at the time but they opened with this track:

My best friend and I looked at each other and shouted at each other about how this was the song from a song demo we both had on our Commodore 64 computers:

At that point I was hooked and have been and OMD fan ever since.

My all-time favorite song by OMD was “Messages”. Here is the song performed live in the “golden age” (1985):
