Thrown back into childhood. Figuratively speaking.

Music has an uncanny ability to connect you back to a certain time or place.  Listening to the album “New Traditionalists” by Devo right now on Spotify.  This album came out when I was 11 and it’s dredging up an overflow of memories, bringing me back to a time when I didn’t have a damned care in the world.  This was one of my favorite bands at that time courtesy of my sister (she took me to see The B-52’s, one of my other favorite bands, during their Whammy tour.)  My best friend and I listened to this album over and over and over again on his brother’s stereo while playing video games (Colecovision in his case).  Video games and these albums were my life at that time so the connection to them is very emotional. 😉

I don’t want to sound like a nostalgic old fool but that was a simpler time, the type of environment I wish my kids could have now.   Being able to run around the neighborhood in the summertime as kids and the only thing our parents would have to do is yell out the door to get us to come home, without having to worry that we’d disappear.  And honestly, it’s depressing to revisit that time in my mind listening to this music.  So much great stuff lost.
