I just went back and looked at my entry for yesterday, but one year ago. I had written about the Boston Store and how a competitor had made a “grand return” to State Street years ago and was occupying the building the Boston Store had occupied during its years in Chicago. That competitor, Sears, never quite made it and announced a few weeks ago that it will be closing it’s State Street store. This wasn’t surprising news given how awful the store was since almost day one. How do you keep people coming back with a crappy shopping experience? Grumpy employees, narrow isles, and a general feeling of disorganization don’t do it.
