On the death of Natalie Cole

Devastating news today for the music world on the death of Natalie Cole at 65. Devastating news for me personally as she was the reason I ever got into the music of her father and others, like Sinatra. “Unforgettable… with Love” was my introduction to that music and I listened to it over, and over, and over again. I moved on to her father’s version of the same songs, “The Unforgettable Nat King Cole”, and it almost stopped me dead in my tracks exploring this music. A kid of the 80s it just sounded ridiculous to me, so old-fashioned compared to the new sound of his daughter. Eventually I came around though and love that album even more than the Natalie Cole release.

Hearing this news today really left me with a heavy heart. I had no idea that Natalie Cole had so many demons earlier in her life that ultimately took it from her. She will be missed.
