Today it’s about observing your thoughts and the actions that follow. It’s very similar to what Eckhart Tolle calls “The Watcher” in “The Power of Now”.
To me the idea of the Watcher was extremely useful in helping deal with anxiety by noticing when the feelings would start the creep in, then take the mental step outside of the situation to look critically, and more importantly dispassionately, at what was going on to head off the anxiety.
A lot of words to say it’s very useful in just about any situation to be able to take that step outside of the situation to watch your reactions and be able to modify them. Or at the very least get insight into how you react to different situations.
